Tutorial: Zoom on Cilium: An Interactive Tutorial to Learn How to Reshape the Traffic Using EBPF - XDP - Adam Sayah, solo.io

the eBPF technology is revolutionizing the network stack, allowing code to run securely in a sandbox within the kernel to get instant metrics and to apply network security policies. from CNIs (E.g. Cilium) to monitoring (E.g. Pixie) to service mesh, eBPF is now the core technology of multiple open source projects in the networking landscape, eBPF even allows us to reshape our traffic at the driver level using eXpress Data Path (XDP) system in the Linux kernel, which offers high-performance programmable packet processing integrated with the kernel, and this is what we are going to learn in the following workshop. During this session, we will get an introduction to eBPF and XDP, and using an interactive online workshop platform, we will learn how to create an eBPF program, and how to use XDP to reshape the traffic, and apply routing policies that impact the traffic in a Kubernetes cluster for example, By attending this workshop, the attendees will have a better understanding of how the technology works behind the scene in their favorite eBPF-based open-source projects.
