InnerSource is the practice of enterprises adopting the modern massive peer-based software development engineering methods proven in thousands of open source projects over the past 20 years. While an early leader in enterprise open source participation, IBM has only recently started to apply the techniques associated with open source software development to address internal challenges while keeping the initiative behind the firewall. Why is IBM doing this? To reduce barriers between our software development teams, inviting contributions beyond a core team, breaking down silos and enabling other organizations and teams within IBM to contribute back.
