The rise of the Open Source Program Office (OSPO) roughly mirrors the proliferation of Open Source software to build and run the most important technology applications. Initially focused on license compliance, the OSPO often plays a broader role inside organizations today. This can include setting policies and processes on code use, distribution, and selection, as well as training developers, ensuring legal compliance, and promoting and building community engagement that benefits the organization strategically. Based on the recent results from the OSPO 2022 Survey (https://todogroup.org/blog/ospo-survey-2022-results/), this talk aims to share an overview of how organizations around the world are structuring their OSPOs, the responsibilities of such offices, as well as some of the existing challenges to their adoption within Asia-Pacific organizations. This talk is for those open source leaders and organizations in Asia-pacific willing to embark on their OSPO journey.
